2008/05 Marokko

Während wir ins entfernte exotische Ungarn nach Tapolca fahren, macht der Mike einen Hupfer ums Eck (quasi) nach Marokko .... Oder war das umgekehrt?

If you ever wanted to do the Dakar - do this tour first!

Tour with Motoaventures

Day 1: 300km
Day 2: 320km
Day 3: 320km
Day 4: rest day
Day 5: 250km
Day 6: 220km
Day 7: 190km

John who is running this whole thing was leading the tour. Very good rider - did the Dakar himself. Well - to stage 7 where this pussy broke his wrist.

The bikes are all 450exc - maby 2004/2005 models. Bikes are geared long - so they are fast.

On the first 1/2 day the skill level of riders get determined. We basically split into 3 groups. The expert group riding basically flat out and stuff like the big dunes and things the other guys don't. Always waiting up throughout the day.

We did fast desert where we topped out at around 170km/h, rocky desert, dried out sandy river beds where you need to be at least in 3rd to get through, big rock river beds, dunes - highest was at 150m, through the Atlas Mountains where it's not a good idea to miss a turn (long way down), .......

This was a particularly good group of riders. 2 who were riding in the British trials championships, 2 Erzberg guys and one Motocrosser. Needless to say that I was the slowest in that group. Stew and Justin who ride trials and Enduros about every weekend live close to me - so they will show me how to ride a trials bike properly. Got a trials day next month - if I like it I'll probably pick up a Gas Gas.

John is a funny guy. Was in the Army before and a diver for oil rigs. No breaks - maby 45 min in a 8 hour ride.

Sue and Abdul the mechanic were following with the Defender. If you crash or have a puncture they will basically pick you up. Satellite phone on board.

You can get a GPS if you want. I took one - good stuff.

All in all a good trip but very demanding. No room for errors. There are rocks all over the place and if you get off you will go to the hospital for sure and the bike will have quite some damage.
